The developers behind the popular meme coin Shiba Inu announced plans this week to pursue a custom “.shib” internet domain aimed at advancing blockchain identity offerings.
Shiba Inu plans to apply for the distinct .shib domain during ICANN’s next application window, according to developers. ICANN vets and approves new global internet domains.

If successful, the move would allow Shiba Inu and partners like D3 to sell .shib website name domains. This mirrors existing domains like or .org, but with exclusive rights tied to the meme coin and its ecosystem partners.
These crypto-branded domains can then double as blockchain identity credentials, linking wallet addresses to domain names while preserving privacy.
“Our partnership with D3 allows us to scale outside of the existing ShibArmy and give over 5 billion Internet users direct access to the SHIB ecosystem,” said Shytoshi Kusama, Lead Developer of SHIB.
The domain resembles Shiba Inu’s existing Shib Name Service identity product, which attaches domain-like wallet names to user addresses. So while social media buzz generated the initial SHIB mania, shifts toward decentralized identity, payments, and credentialing seem likely to shape the next stage of ecosystem growth.
While there are numerous meme coins out there on the market, Shiba Inu stands out with its notable developments. These include Shibarium, the Shiba Eternity game, SHIB Burn Initiatives, and much more.
