MediaTek has announced two new Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, the Genio 720 and Genio 520, designed to support artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The company says these platforms will help developers create smart devices for homes, retail, and industrial settings.
The Genio 720 and 520 include an advanced Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that can handle AI tasks efficiently. They offer up to 10 trillion operations per second (TOPS) and support large language models (LLMs) like Llama and Gemini. The platforms also allow developers to integrate AI using common frameworks, potentially speeding up product development.
“These platforms bring AI processing directly to devices, ensuring both efficiency and data privacy,” said CK Wang, general manager of MediaTek’s IoT Business Group. “They support various applications, from smart retail displays to industrial systems.”
Built on a 6-nanometer process, the Genio 720 and 520 feature an octa-core processor with two high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores. This design balances processing power with energy efficiency, making the chips suitable for battery-powered devices.
MediaTek has also included multimedia features such as support for 4K and 5K displays, video encoding and decoding, and multiple camera connections. The platforms work with different operating systems, including Android, Ubuntu, and Yocto Linux.
The company says these IoT platforms will be available for testing in the second quarter of 2025.
