Company says it no longer wants one of its domains, but it still has two other dot-brand top level domains.Image with the words www.brand Prudential, the global financial services company, has informed ICANN that it is terminating one of its top-level domains.
In January, Prudential notified ICANN that it no longer wants to retain the .pramerica domain. This week, ICANN opened a public comment period on its decision not to redelegate the string.
Prudential has not canceled its two other top level domains, .pru and .prudential.
While the company never put .pramerica to use, it has registered many second level domains under its other top level domains. These domains, such as jobs.prudential and agents.pru, forward to pages on the company’s main prudential.com website.
It will be interesting to see which companies apply for dot-brand top level domain names in the next round of top level domain expansion, due to kick off next year. While some companies, such as Toshiba, have gone all-in on their domains, most dot-brand applicants have barely used their domains. So far, 174 dot-brand domains have been canceled.
