Delta Air Lines Inc. is launching two new Africa routes from Atlanta later this year, strengthening its presence on the continent as a variety of African nations continue to show deeper interest in Georgia
Delta will start its first-ever service to Marrakech, Morocco, three times weekly starting on Oct. 25 and is adding seasonal daily service to the West African destination of Accra, Ghana, on Dec. 1.

The return of the Atlanta flight to Accra adds holiday capacity on a route Delta has seen become a key tourist target since the airline began operating in Africa in 2006.
“Whether discovering Morocco or reconnecting with loved ones in Ghana, these routes enhance our network while reinforcing Atlanta’s role as the world’s largest global hub,” Delta Senior Vice President of Network Planning Paul Baldoni said in a release.
Delta last flew nonstop from Atlanta to Accra in 2012, at which point the route was discontinued due to uneven demand and rising fuel costs. Delta serves the Ghanaian capital with a daily flight from New York that was restarted in 2021 after a pandemic pause.
The Ghana flight also comes just after the country installed a new honorary consul in Georgia, Yvonne Horsley McCowin, who told Global Atlanta that boosting tourism was among her main objectives in the diplomatic role.
In 2019, Ghana hosted its Year of Return program, marking the 400th anniversary of slaves being transported to the Americas and targeting African American visitors interested in exploring their ancestry. Accra, meanwhile, was dubbed the “capital of cool” and an essential place to visit in 2023 by the New York Times.
Newly elected President John Dramani Mahama, who took office Jan. 7, has visited Atlanta on multiple occasions, including when he served a previous five-year term as president.
While Morocco has less of an official presence in Atlanta, Marrakech is a UNESCO-listed city that has become popular with tourists for its desert retreats, spas, lively Medina, winding souks and intricate architecture and design. Learn more about the destination in the Delta release
Delta is celebrating its centennial throughout 2025, and with the two new flights, it will serve 67 international destinations from Atlanta. That access, along with an unrivaled domestic network, is a key ingredient to the city’s success in drawing corporate headquarters from all over the world.
