The 20th Annual General Meeting of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) convened in Geneva on November, 18-20, 2024, with a focus on balancing the surging demand for critical minerals with environmental protection and community well-being. Speakers emphasized the need to ensure that mining benefits local communities and countries, advocating for equitable distribution of value and responsible sourcing practices. A key theme was the importance of investment in sustainable mining practices to meet the growing demand for critical minerals essential for renewable energy technologies. The IGF also highlighted the need for international collaboration and regional dialogues to manage mineral supply chains effectively and responsibly.
