Young medical doctor makes strides in academic pursuit – 3news


His dream of earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) has finally been realized but not without surmounting different hurdles.
Dr. Dr. Richard Owusu Nyarko did not only bag his PhD degree in Health Care Management from Cass European Institute but also had all his intensive PhD training from the prestigious Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU).
For over five years, the young and industrious medical doctor strived to break barriers to pursue the highest degree in academia despite his busy schedule during medical school.
“Though the academic journey has been tedious and daunting, giving up was not an option because the focus was to achieve the goal and encourage young persons who desire to attain higher education go for it”, Dr. Dr Nyarko fortified.
For him, being able to put his name in the history books of a handful of medical doctors on the African continent, whom after a rigorous journey of going through medical schools to obtain their professional medical doctorate degrees to become medical doctors, still pursue PhD, is promising enough, especially getting this done at a youthful age.
Richard Owusu Nyarko, M.D, PhD has been described as an industrious, steadfast and exemplary trained medical doctor by his peers.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Richard Owusu Nyarko after pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the Presbyterian University College in Ghana, made stringent effort to move into the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, American International University of West Africa (AIUWA) in The Gambia for their USA track Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme.
Whilst at AIUWA, Richard Owusu Nyarko, M.D, Ph.D wrote and passed the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), USA, IFOM 1 & 2, toped his medical school class to become the valedictorian and then graduated as a medical doctor.
Among his collection of academic pursuit are two masters’ degree in Health Care Management from Cass European Institute with training through the Ghana Communication Technology University and Clinical Leadership and Management (M.SC – CLAM) from the University of Ghana.
His impressive academic and research boasts around 40 peer-reviewed academic publications in international journals of which he is the main author to about 25 in the areas of health sciences, medicine and surgery, pharmacology, public health, health economics, health care management.
Richard Owusu Nyarko, M.D, Ph.D is a professional member of the American Heart Association, the first African to qualify and be admitted as a diplomat of the American Professional Wound Care Association and also the first African to become a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists. He is a member of the East African Society of Physiological Sciences.
As a senior lecturer and dean of the faculty of health sciences of the Ghana Christian University College, he intends redirecting all the knowledge he has and continue to acquire to serving humanity in both academia and clinical practice.
