Energy supermajor TotalEnergies has exercised an extension option for the Deepsea Mira semi-submersible rig, which has been operating offshore Namibia. The rig is owned by international drilling contract Northern Ocean and operated by engineering services company Odfjell Drilling.
The first term of the contract has been extended by 65 to 93 days and is expected to provide an additional revenue backlog for Northern Ocean of between $27 million and $38 million.
The sixth generation CS 60 E harsh environment semi-submersible rig – which can operate in water depths of up to 10,000 feet – has been working under TotalEnergies through a multi-country drilling contract since December 2022.
In 2023, the rig was used to appraise Namibia’s Venus light oil discovery, while exploration drilling on Block 2913B in the Orange Basin resulted in the discovery of the Tamboti-1X exploration well, which is described as a 1-billion-barrel target.
