The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum High-Level Event will bring together stakeholders to take stock of achievements and key challenges, opportunities, and trends since the Geneva Plan of Action in 2003. The Event will mark twenty years of progress in the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society.
Twenty years ago, the WSIS set the framework for global digital cooperation with a vision of building inclusive, development-oriented information and knowledge societies. Since then, the annual WSIS Forum has served as a global multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development. The 2023 WSIS Forum convened on the theme, ‘WSIS Action Lines for Building Back Better and Accelerating the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will co-organize the High-Level Event, which is co-hosted by ITU and the Swiss Confederation.
