The 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) will convene in November 2024.
The IGF supports more than 75 nations committed to leveraging mining for sustainable development to ensure negative impacts are limited and financial benefits are shared. It is devoted to optimizing the benefits of mining to achieve poverty reduction, inclusive growth, social development, and environmental stewardship.
The 19th AGM focused on rethinking how benefits are shared and multiplied, while ensuring a just transition. The AGM discussed: the role of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in the energy transition; how to ensure host communities fully benefit from mining projects; reform of tax and benefit-sharing regimes; and how best to ensure a fair, equitable, and inclusive energy transition, among other topics.
