Thank you for tuning in to our coverage for this Super Eight game.
Hope you’ll join us for the next one as India face Bangladesh on Saturday.
For now, though – from me, Shubi Arun, and from Kevin Hand – it’s goodbye.
“Last three overs we had a lot against us but the bowlers had good plans and pulled it off,” he said. “Message after the power play was it got slower. If I am greedy. we were 10-20 short especially after the start we got. Not quite played a complete game of cricket but we are on the right track.”
“Quinton [de Kock] came in with a lot of intent, and we couldn’t quite match that,” Buttler says. “We pulled it back and were happy to chase that target, but his innings was the difference.
“We came back well with the ball. Brook and Livingstone had a fantastic partnership to get us close and even look like favourites but credit to South Africa for closing out the game.”
“It [the pitch] definitely doesn’t play the same as night games,” he says. “It’s a completely different surface compared to the night games. There was a little bit of extra bounce early on. I try to carry on confidence – game by game.
“We bowled really well in the powerplay, and we controlled it very nicely. To be able to defend 160 on a decent wicket is a good effort from us.”
De Kock was the only batter to get a read on the surface with a superlative 65 runs in 38 balls. That 21-run over against Archer in the powerplay was key to South Africa’s win. It felt like he was batting on a different surface.
Wow. South Africa have been in some ding dong scraps during this tournament. Yet again Rabada crucial in bowling a tight over at just the right time. He pushes the finish line back just enough for others to do the rest.

South Africa held their nerve when Livingstone and Brook seemed to have got England home, with Jansen and Rabada pulling things back with superb 18th and 19th overs. But the game swung on that Markram catch of Brook. The Yorkshireman was the danger-man and his dismissal effectively sealed the game for South Africa. Their fielding all through the innings was superb, and helped rack up the pressure on England. A win to be proud of for the Proteas, who are emerging as serious contenders in this World Cup.
Play and a miss off the last ball from Archer.
South Africa beat England by seven runs!
All done now, barring any extras. Curran hits it straight to mid-off and picks up a single.
Curran works it to deep mid-wicket but declines the run. Brave move.
Nortje strays onto the legs of Curran who flicks past fine-leg for four.
Archer heaves it to deep midwicket and gets Curran on strike.
Thirteen needed from four.
Unbelievable catch from Markram. Brook chips it and Markram runs back from mid-off and takes a sharp catch. Advantage South Africa!
Archer is the new batter.
Great over from Jansen. It goes for just seven runs.
England need 14 runs from the final over.
He’s dug the ball into the pitch with just four runs from his first four balls.
His first in a T20 World Cup. A crucial fifty that comes in 34 balls.
England need 21 runs from 12 balls.
Dale Steyn on the broadcast thinks the wicket might have come too late for South Africa. Sam Curran, who joins Brook in the middle, is adept with the bat. South Africa need one more wicket here, to get the upper hand.
Rabada gets away with a full toss down leg that Livingstone can’t quite time and is caught at the boundary by Stubbs.
You have to account for an over like this at the death. Baartman misses his length, bowling five full tosses. Brook finishes off the over with a four over mid-on. It’s an over that may have cost the game for South Africa.
They need 25 runs from 18 balls.
Full toss down leg and Livingstone gives it the treatment. Baartman is feeling the pressure.
Like Nortje’s over, Baartman starts with successive boundaries. A full toss outside off is easily eaten by Livingstone.
Livingstone goes hard on Baartman’s first ball. Good start for England, again.
Thirteen runs off the over for England.
They need 46 runs from 24 balls.
Brook middled this one. He makes space by moving to the leg and smacks another four between mid-off and cover.
