GUWAHATI: The Science, Technology, and Climate Change Department of the Government of Assam have announced a call for proposals under the Green Innovation Fund (GIF). The initiative, spearheaded by the Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC), aims to promote green technology-based innovations in the state.
Introduced in the Assam Budget 2023-24, the Green Innovation Fund is geared towards strengthening and improving the Research and Development (R&D) ecosystem. It emphasizes the promotion of green technology-based innovations and entrepreneurship, fostering social awareness among students and the general public.
The last date for the submission of proposals is set for February 28, 2024. The key objectives of the Green Innovation Fund include promoting green sustainable technologies in the state, encouraging grassroots innovations using locally available resources, and addressing socio-economic and environmental needs.
The initiative is structured into three main components:
• R&D for Green Technologies (RDGT): Focus areas include climate vulnerabilities, traditional knowledge-based technologies, disruptive technologies, climate-resilient agriculture techniques, eco-tourism-related technologies, and green-energy-based technologies.
• Green Technology & Innovation Implementation (GTII): Emphasizing waste management, waste-based products and technologies, renewable energy-based products and technologies, and green infrastructure development.
• Awareness and Green Capacity Building (AGCB): Aims to inculcate scientific temperament among students regarding green technologies/innovations and promote wider social awareness about the benefits of green technologies.
Eligibility criteria vary for each component, targeting R&D proposals in their initial ideation stage and proof of concept/prototypes for green technologies. R&D/academic institutions, government, and non-government institutions in the state, as well as individual innovators associated with relevant organizations, are invited to submit project proposals.
