SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A parent has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Springfield’s High School of Science and Technology.
On March 11, a Sci-Tech resource officer called for a large fight at the school. One suspect had a gun, hit a victim, and fired one shot from within the school that went through a window. Police noted that there were no serious injuries in the fight and nobody was hit by gunfire.
Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said that an investigation found that 45-year-old Dana Dudley, Chantz Dudley, Josiah Livingston and a juvenile female student were outside the school when a teacher cracked the door open to tell them to leave. At that time, one of the suspects reportedly grabbed the door handle, opened the door, and the suspects allegedly forced their way into the school.
Dana Dudley was detained by school staff, who also removed a knife that he reportedly had possession of. After the gun fired, Dana Dudley allegedly drove off with Chantz Dudley and the female.
Walsh added that Dana Dudley was arrested Tuesday afternoon and is being processed by Chicopee Police before being returned to Springfield Police for booking. Dana Dudley has been charged with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds and armed breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony putting a person in fear. Arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Springfield District Court.
Livingston was arrested on March 11 on assault and battery charges for his alleged role in the incident and Walsh noted that more charges are pending.
An arrest warrant remains out for Chantz Dudley in connection with his alleged role in the shooting. Once arrested, he will face charges including discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property more than $1,200, carrying a firearm on school grounds, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and armed breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony putting a person in fear. Walsh explained that, at the time of the Sci-Tech incident, Chantz Dudley was out on bail after being indicted on firearms charges from a September 2022 incident at Eastfield Mall.
“If you see [Chantz] Dudley, do not approach him, consider him armed and dangerous. We urge Mr. Dudley to turn himself in at the nearest police station or at the Hampden County Hall of Justice,” Walsh said.
Anyone with information on Chantz Dudley’s whereabouts is asked to call the Springfield Police detective bureau at (413) 787-6355 or ‘Text-A-Tip’ to CRIMES (274637) and in the message, type SOLVE and your tip.
The incident remains under investigation.
