The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday adopted final guidelines for a voluntary labeling program to inform Americans on the cybersecurity standards of the internet-connected devices they buy.
The “US Cyber Trust Mark” program will put a shield logo on products such as smart televisions, appliances, and video doorbells that meet baseline cybersecurity standards developed under the program. Compliance with the program requirements will be approved by accredited labs and the program would be managed by the FCC, according to a draft version of the order circulated before the commissioners’ vote.
