Academies group seeks to increase policy engagement of early and mid-career researchers
An EU science academies network is calling for researchers to answer questions on their experiences of contributing to policymaking, to help early- and mid-career researchers do the same.
The Science Advice for Policy by European Academies (Sapea) group opened an online survey last month to highlight opportunities for researchers at these stages to contribute to policymaking and find out the challenges they face when doing so.
Sapea, a part of the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism, which provides independent scientific evidence and policy recommendations to the EU institutions, will analyse the results and produce a report on them this summer.
The publicly available report will include best practices for early- and mid-career researchers, and help shape a Sapea strategy aiming to encourage those starting out in science to contribute to policymaking.
The survey asks questions such as whether researchers have ever worked outside academia and whether they are a member of a learned society or academy.
“By sharing their experiences, researchers have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a more inclusive, diverse and impactful science-policy landscape within the EU,” Sapea said.
