Amarillo Police Department Regional Crime Center technology assisting in arrests – Amarillo Police Department … – KFDA

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Regional Crime Center has been in place for one year assisting the Amarillo Police Department.
The ARCC has rolled out a lot of new technology including license plate readers, drones and surveillance cameras at intersections.
APD says violent crime is up 50% across the nation and the ARCC’s goal is to reduce it.
Drones were used in the recent SWAT standoff near Fleetwood and Paramount Park to aid officers and track the suspect.
“We were able to see the suspect after he shot at officers, saw him climbing fences and saw him secrete himself into a cellar,” said Lt. Shane Chadwick, commander of the Amarillo Regional Crime Center. “We were able to pass that on to officers so that they were able to put a perimeter up and maintain their safety.”
Since becoming a unit, the ARCC has assisted in over 700 cases resulting in more than 200 arrests.
“We’ve been adding layers of technology that feed into the crime center. That being the license plate readers, the drones, surveillance cameras at the intersections, bringing in other technology,” said Lt. Chadwick.
The license plate readers have been active for two and a half months and have assisted in 218 cases resulting in 66 arrests and 84 recovered stolen cars.
The drones have been in place for over a year and have flown over 5,000 flights and assisted in 188 cases resulting in 72 arrests.
Analysts in the crime center have assisted in 218 cases resulting in 38 arrests.
Clear-view, a facial recognition technology, has assisted in 101 cases resulting in 21 arrests.
Fusus, camera integration technology, has assisted in 36 cases resulting in four arrests.
In the coming year, the ARCC plans on rolling out more technology to bring down violent crime and keep the Amarillo community safe.
