NIPOST Address Verification System (AVS) Emerges Winner of 2018 WSIS Prize – Technext

The  Nigerian Postal Service has emerged winner of the of the seventh annual World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes contest for 2018, through the NIPOST Address Verification System, NIPOST AVS. NIPOST AVS seeks to create a centralized and up-to-date database of physical addresses and details of their occupants.

The WSIS Prizes contest is a global initiative for recognizing innovative projects using information and communication technologies, ICTs, to better the world.NIPOST Address Verification System (AVS) Emerges Winner of 2018 WSIS Prize
The contest was developed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) to evaluate and recognize individuals, governments, civil society, local, regional and international agencies, research institutions and private-sector companies for outstanding success in implementing development-oriented strategies that leverage the power of ICTs as an enabler of the development.

The finalists, known as WSIS Champions, represented the top 90 projects selected from a record-breaking 492 nominated projects.

The NIPOST AVS a verification platform that seeks to create a centralised and up-to-date database of physical addresses and the details of their occupants in order to bridge the gap in data verification. It has built on a highly secure and reliable platform powered by Youverify, one of the Village Capital, PayPal Fintech Accelerator participants.NIPOST Address Verification System (AVS) Emerges Winner of 2018 WSIS Prize
The platform enables individuals, service providers, institutions and government agencies verify customers’ addresses, as well as identities.

It is, therefore, commendable that at the WSIS Process Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) was awarded a Winning Prize in the 7th Annual WSIS Prizes Contest—for the NIPOST Address Verification System (AVS).
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a two-tier United Nations-sponsored summit on information, communication and information society.
