As the Investing in African Mining Indaba event highlighted in Cape Town last week, our continent hosts, in considerable volume, very many of the minerals needed for the just energy transition and for the development of green industries.
For example, it is endowed with 91% of platinum group metals, 79% of phosphate rock, 53% of cobalt, 46% of manganese, 35% of chromite, 21% of graphite, and the list could go on and on.
What is so opportunistic about all this is that, at this time of sky-high technological advancement, there is potential for more value to be added to our natural resources locally than ever before. In addition, the African Continental Free Trade Area stimulus is gradually getting under way to better the business case for local entrepreneurs to expand exports to fellow African countries.
