ShopRite has partnered with freezer tech company Phononic, deploying their freezer and refrigerator totes at one of its New York City locations, the tech company announced Thursday.
The 2nd Generation Active Cooling Solutions Freezer and Refrigerator totes are used for storing online orders while waiting for shoppers and delivery drivers to pick them up.
“The recent launch of the Phononic 2nd Generation ACS totes allowed us to create an ‘Order. Pickup. Deliver.’ department in a store with a smaller building footprint. Local customers can now pick up their online orders at the store or have them delivered,” said Steve Savas, president, Shop-Rite Supermarkets, Inc., in a statement. “We are always looking for opportunities to be at the forefront of innovation in digital commerce, and we are excited to be the first grocer in the nation with this technology.”
The company said the Phononic tech has enabled them to save space in the small store, cutting staging space by 70%, and creating better efficiency by reducing congestion.
ShopRite is a Wakefern Food Corp. banner, which operates locations in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
