On Day 3, South Africa’s Elgar and Jansen continued to give trouble to Indian bowlers, until Shardul Thakur picked Elgar’s (185) wicket in the 95th over. Before the match was called off on Day 2, as bad lights played a spoilsport. South Africa were leading by 11 runs after having scored 256/5 in 66 overs, all thanks to Dean Elgar’s 14th Test century and David Bedingham’s half-century.
With South African batters playing in a strong partnership, Indian pacers were in some serious trouble. Bumrah dismissed Tony de Zorzi and Keegan Peterson to provide India with a crucial breakthrough.

Ashwin comes and bowls a maiden over.
Here come two boundaries from Prasidh Krishna’s over. South African batters are playing him quite easily at the moment. Moreover, he is struggling with his line and length.
Rohit Sharma goes for a double change. Ravi Ashwin comes to bowl his first over of the day. Elgar takes a quick single.
Debutant Prasidh Krishna comes to bowl his first over of the day. Soon, Jansen hits him away for a clean 4! And, again! Jansen hits two back-to-back boundaries.
Siraj is bowling his 17th over. He hits a crack on the pitch and disturbs Elgar with an uneven bounce. Next, he trusts Jansen and gives him the strike. The second new ball is due in 8 overs, but the present ball is doing absolutely fine.
Bumrah is bowling his 19th over of the innings. India are apparently working on a strategy for not allowing Dean Elgar to play a front-foot shot. On Day 2, he scored loads of runs on his front foot. The Sun is shining bright at the moment.
The first four overs are done. Bumrah and Siraj leading the bowling attack for India. South Africa are 20 runs ahead at the moment.
Kagiso Rabada (5/44) Nandre Burger (3/50) and Marco Jansen (1/52) were among the wickets for South Africa. Gerald Coetzee also took a wicket.
Former Indian coach and all-rounder Ravi Shastri was not impressed with Rohit Sharma’s on-field tactics after the resumption of post-lunch play at Centurion on Day 2.
“On any pecking order, these two (Shardul and Prasidh) would have been the last to start the proceedings (after lunch),” said Shastri.
“That is something that we have had a discussion multiple times when I was the coach. And more often than not we decided to go with the best two bowlers at the start of the session,” he added.
Virat Kohli, on December 27, was seen signing a Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) jersey for a little fan.
For the first time, the Sun is blazing in Centurion. Will there be a full day of play in today’s match? Weather predictions suggest there could be showers later in the evening.
Sachin Tendulkar was impressed with KL Rahul’s “clarity of thought”.
“His footwork looked precise and assured, and that happens when a batter is thinking right. This century is crucial in the context of this Test,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Dean Elgar’s batting approach changed India’s bowling plans, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz. He specifically appreciated Elgar’s front-foot shots. Khan mentioned that Elgar must be eager to finish his career on a high.
Centurion weather disrupted the first two days of the Test match. Day 1 was restricted due to rain while only 59 overs could be played. Day 2 was called off due to bad light. Day 3 is expected to remain cloudy. A few showers are expected during the later part of the match.
On December 27, during the second day of the first Test match against South Africa in Centurion, Virat Kohli performed the well-known ‘bail switch’ trick. Right after Kohli’s trick, Jasprit Bumrah took the wickets of Tony de Zorzi and Keegan Petersen.
When KL Rahul was asked if he felt like giving it back to trolls, he wondered what he would achieve by doing that.
“People will say what they want to. If you are a public performer, performance is your only yardstick to stay away from criticism,” said Rahul who earlier scored a century for India. Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar earlier termed it as one of the 10 best hundreds ever hit by an Indian batter.
Dean Elgar, all set to retire after the Test series against India, scored his first century at Centurion on Day 2.
“It’s a special game for me, my last international fixture here, and my family and friends are watching,” he said after the match. “I’ve now got hundreds at all the Test venues in South Africa, which is pretty cool.”
