Elon University students are encouraged to participate in the Integrating Science in Research, a one-day regional STEM conference for undergraduates on Saturday, April 12, 2025, to be held on the Elon University campus.
The undergraduate research conference established in 2018 by a team of Wake Forest University students who wanted to give students from smaller institutions, without the resources of major universities, the opportunity to present their research and interact with students from other colleges and universities.
Each person wanting to present their research will present it to faculty judges and receive constructive feedback. This feedback is only given for the benefit of the person presenting. There will be no prizes or awards given for the best presentations. This is done to ensure that this conference celebrates research and does not denigrate anybody’s efforts.
There will also be a 60-minute panel session focusing on the jobs available in STEM fields and academia. The conference will also feature an hour-long keynote speaker discussing exciting opportunities in research. This year’s speaker is Keriayn Smith, associate professor of genetics at UNC School of Medicine.
Associate Professor of Mathematics Hwayeon Ryu and Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics Nancy Scherich are on the organizing committee for the conference.
If you are interested in presenting your undergraduate STEM research at the conference or are just interested in being an attendee, you can register at https://iris.wfu.edu/. Registration is free. The deadline to sign up for presenters is Saturday, March 29, and the deadline for regular attendees is Saturday, April 5.
If you have any questions or would like more information on this event, contact Hwayeon Ryu at hryu@elon.edu.
