The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) Kancheepuram, has collaborated with Education and Research Network of India (ERNET) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to establish a joint research laboratory.
Ernet and the institute signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to establish a joint research lab for the project Internet of things (IoT) functionality validation sandbox.
Ernet India, an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of MeitY has been connecting academic and research institutions across the country using cutting-edge technologies. 
M.V. Kartikeyan, director of the institute and Sanjeev Banzal, director general of Ernet India were the signatories of the MoU. A Paventhan, director (R&D) of Ernet Chennai, along with scientists form Ernet and senior faculty from the institute participated. The partnership is expected to drive collaborative research across various technical domains and emerging technologies.
It will also enhance research opportunities at the institute by providing a state-of-the-art research park to strengthen innovation, institute officials said. The institute will have access to Ernet’s advanced technological infrastructure besides opportunities for joint funding proposals, publications and industry-academia linkages. 
As part of the agreement Mr. Banzal distributed internship offer letters to six students of the institute. The internship opportunities will be extended to all rural students who will be trained at the institute’s laboratory, according to a release from the institute.
