How to use new sprayer technologies effectively

A central Illinois farmer says implementing new sprayer technologies has helped boost performance on his operation.
Product manager for research and development at Precision Planting Luke Stuber says the biggest challenge is learning how new technologies fit the needs of his farm.
“With many sprayer passes, they’re making both residuals and contacts in it,” he says. “A new piece of technology requires you to kind of think through how you’re spraying and what your whole chemical program looks like. You have to start changing things to fit the new technology.”
He tells Brownfield, “In our enlist soybeans, we would normally plan on a single post pass. Let’s say our post pass is warrant, Liberty and enlist. I remove my warrant so I can save that money and I can spot spray my liberty and enlist, then I’m going to come back and spot spray for a second time.”
Stuber says he plans to expand spot spraying technology and improve his chemical program for 2025.
