We know that a booming technology sector doesn’t just happen overnight. That’s why NYCEDC supports the local tech and venture ecosystem, offering access to resources for NYC’s diverse community of tech entrepreneurs and collaborating with venture investors to achieve diversity throughout the startup value chain.
Venture Access NYC is a suite of programs to address inequities within the tech startup ecosystem for founders and funders in NYC.
NYC continues to assert its place as a leading startup ecosystem. As of May 2023, Manhattan has the most early-stage startups in the nation, edging out San Francisco, the longstanding leader in startup activity. According to data from firm Carta, as reported in Crain’s NY, Manhattan is home to 543 companies that raised a seed or series A round between March 2022 and March 2023.
Further 2022 overall saw over 4,500 NYC startups raise money across emerging tech verticals such as artificial intelligence, fintech, and cybersecurity.

NYC Cyber Workforce
Capital raised by NYC fintech startups in 2022
With a cybersecurity workforce over 60,000 strong and more than 300 dedicated cyber companies, NYC is a global cyber hub. NYC takes cybersecurity seriously and, working with the State of New York, launched the Joint Security Operations Center in Brooklyn in 2022.
NYC has ranked #1 in US healthtech job postings over the past five years, raising $800 million in funding for 2022.
NYC is home to the #2 fintech startup ecosystem, with 375 startups raising over $21 billion.
