Sustainability at Haas

The Berkeley Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize honors academic research papers with the greatest potential to address urgent global sustainability challenges and accelerate the green transition in society. Established in 2023 through the generous support of Allan Spivack (Berkeley Haas MBA, 1980) and administered by the Berkeley Haas Center for Responsible Business (CRB), the prize seeks to bridge the gap between academia and practice by recognizing and promoting research that offers the most promising solutions for advancing sustainable business.
The prize is awarded by a committee of well-regarded sustainability researchers and practitioners affiliated with the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business who choose best in class academic studies to win a combined $20,000 prize.
2024-25 Topical Focus
The 2024-25 Berkeley Haas Sustainable Business Research Prize requires research papers that demonstrate both academic rigor and practical application. We welcome nominations of papers from any academic discipline that connect with the following priority themes:
Structuring Companies for Sustainability
Cross-Industry Collaborations and Frameworks for Sustainability
Rethinking the Role of Business in Society

The Prize is administered by the Berkeley Haas Center for Responsible Business (CRB) and supported by Allan Spivack, MBA ‘80 and former President & CEO of RGI Home. Spivack is a long-time sustainable business vanguard and serves on the Senior Advisory Board of the Berkeley Haas Center for Responsible Business.
The CRB connects students, businesses, and faculty to mobilize the positive potential of business to create a more responsible, resilient, and sustainable society. Building on more than a decade of research, teaching, and engaging with business, we educate and provoke thoughtful debate. The Center encourages sustainability-minded research and its application in the marketplace of commerce and ideas.
