Several SUNY Fredonia students completed a recent IoT (Internet of Things) workshop organized by the Department of Computer and Information Sciences.
The workshop was conducted in the Houghton Hall robotics lab by Dr. Syed Misbahuddin, a faculty member from Seneca Polytechnic Toronto. 
Dr. Misbahhuddin showed the students how to configure Rapsberry Pi as an IoT device and how to control its various ports by programming and remote management using smart phones. The controlled devices included servo motors and LEDs. 
The students were fully engaged for several hours and created some fun projects using the accessories and equipment provided to them in the robotics lab. At the conclusion of the workshop, the students, including Alexander Scalcione, T’Kaia Parke, Kaylie Fox, Milan Pansuriya,  Zahary Stofko, Timothy Doan and Aaron Burkett, received certificates from the department.
Fredonia music faculty, alumna commissioned to write music in celebration of total solar eclipse School of Music Lecturer Andrew Martin Smith and former adjunct lecturer Jamie Leigh Sampson were commissioned by the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts to collaborate in the creation of new musical compositions in celebration of the total solar eclipse crossing North America.
Two faculty in the College of Education, Health Sciences, and Human Services and a graduate of its Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program are recipients of an award from The International Research Foundation for English Language Education (TIRF).
Assistant Professor Ignacio Sarmiento recently signed a book contract with the University of Arizona Press to publish his first monograph, “Specters of War: The Battle of Mourning in Post-Conflict Central America.”
