New offering for academic libraries spans six centuries of essential content to serve researchers and students of all levels
Over the past decade, academic libraries have undergone significant transformations, driven by rapid changes in technology, evolving research methodologies and the increasing demand for primary sources and digital resources.
This has made the task of curating collections that meet the varied needs of researchers increasingly challenging. Librarians now navigate a complex landscape that requires a nuanced understanding of varying resources to ensure that their collections remain relevant and accessible to their communities. Balancing budget constraints and the ever-changing preferences of researchers adds another layer of complexity to the already interconnected processes of collection development.
In response to these evolving needs, Clarivate is introducing a simple, broad subscription-based model to better support academic libraries as they look for uncomplicated and sustainable access to content, an enhanced variety of multiformat content to support courses, curricula and research, and trusted AI tools.
A simplified ProQuest content subscription framework is also available and includes more ProQuest One discipline products aligned to more of the curriculum.
ProQuest Digital Collections is a new subscription that offers academic libraries unparalleled breadth, value, and access to digital resources with affordable pricing.
The new content solution includes unique and exceptional digital resources that are purpose-built to serve interdisciplinary curricula across departments. It offers academic libraries simple, broad access that aligns with today’s library budgets, ensuring students, researchers and faculty can benefit from a rich and varied collection of resources.
The new subscription has a simple and easy-to-understand framework, organized around ProQuest One disciplines, that includes multi-formatted content aligned to higher education curricula in the social sciences and humanities. Nine ProQuest One discipline solutions include: Anthropology, Global Studies & International Relations, History, Literature, Performing Arts, Visual Arts & Design, Entertainment & Popular Culture.

ProQuest Digital Collections is designed for faculty, researchers and students of all levels, providing access to more than 160 million primary source items, complemented by over 2,500 full-text scholarly journals, more than 24,000 video titles, and 15 million audio tracks. This offering builds upon more than 30 years of digitizing an unparalleled amount in size and quality of primary sources, including many rare and unique resources.
To build our collection of primary sources we work closely with world-class content partners and faculty and librarian advisory boards. Curated primary source materials are drawn from regions and time periods spanning six centuries of content, from the early modern period through today, and cover archival collections, magazines and periodicals, official publications, manuscripts, newspapers, musical scores, audio recordings, and video.
This broad variety of resources supports interdisciplinary educational needs—from scholarly research to classroom assignments, to more experiential learning required within the arts.
ProQuest Digital Collections is curriculum-aligned for the study of key disciplines. Given its scale, scope and variety, it’s uniquely suited for interdisciplinary research and assignments that are required of scholars and students today. For example, digital collections enable scholars to investigate interrelated, complex topics such as social movements, global diplomacy, and artistic expression.
We’ve heard from librarians and the academic community that many libraries struggle to provide their students, researchers and faculty with access to the content they need. The high up-front costs of perpetual models act as a barrier to broader access and adoption of content. Our focus will be on providing customers with value at sustainable, affordable subscription costs.
Customers can continue to purchase content via perpetual archive license through December 31, 2025, after which this content will be available via subscription only. There are no changes to collections or content that was previously purchased via perpetual archive license.
As a growing offering, ProQuest Digital Collections will be continually enhanced with multiformat content and innovative features that serve research and learning needs with input from the library and academic community.
Enhancements will include platform capabilities designed to improve accessibility and relevance, as well as tools to support the understanding of materials and development of critical thinking skills for today’s digital world. For instance, ProQuest Research Assistant will continue to help students use academic AI responsibly, rooted in trusted content and academic values. ProQuest Research Assistant will expand over time to fully support ProQuest Digital Collections.
ProQuest has been digitizing primary sources for more than 30 years, during which time we have made many shifts from prior formats to innovative digital solutions to enhance scholar engagement. This is one of those transformational shifts.
There is a tremendous opportunity to help students advance their learning and understanding of complex issues and to hone their problem-solving skills by unlocking these exceptional materials. By combining these resources with AI-powered features, such as ProQuest Research Assistant, we aim to democratize content access and really help scaffold the educational journey.
