Academic Department Computer Information Systems – Bentley University

Graduates of Bentley’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) programs are among the most highly sought-after business professionals in today’s job market. After all, companies are in constant need of specialists who are able to collaborate to transform business by applying rapidly evolving technologies and ensuring that the right people have the right information at the right time. CIS courses deliver a solid understanding of core information technologies and integrate that with a strong business foundation, key managerial skills and emerging competencies such as security and privacy.
Students have access to our CIS Sandbox: a collaborative, cutting-edge social learning space that has been described as a place for “building cool stuff with cool people using cool technology.” With a CIS degree, graduates are able to design, develop, and support integrated information systems across industries in varied roles such as business analyst, systems analyst, systems integrator, application developer, end-user support specialist and more.

Two new course offerings will be available to undergraduate students this fall. A Finance and Technology (FinTech) major explores how tech innovations such as AI and blockchain are redefining the financial services landscape, while a Cybersecurity minor provides both the theoretical knowledge and technical skills needed to build systems that address data privacy and compliance.
As we bid farewell to professors M. Lynne Markus and Jane Fedorowicz, we celebrate their tremendous impact within the field of Information Systems (IS). Markus has made fundamental contributions to the study of enterprise systems and inter-enterprise systems, IT and organizational change, and knowledge management. Fedorowicz’s research has impacted the way we think about inter-organizational information sharing in supply chains, digital government and health care; she also served as president of the largest professional organization of IS faculty members in the world and is a champion for the voice of women in academia.
For years, Bentley’s CIS and IPM (Information and Process Management) departments have worked closely together to deliver high-quality education and conduct impactful research in the field of Information Systems (IS). This fall, the two will merge, in the process becoming one of the largest IS departments among U.S. academic institutions. We are excited about the future as we continue to develop and grow our teaching portfolio and research efforts.
The CIS Sandbox is a social learning space where students prepare to succeed in their CIS courses and to thrive in a technology-driven business world.
