MacBook auto changing DNS settings – how to avoid that on True Gigatex Fiber? – ASEAN NOW

I am normally using DNS 1.1.1.1 and secondary DNS 8.8.8.8 for my devices. Works very fast well at home and other locations. Currently I’m staying at a resort and they provide fast wifi from True Gigatex fiber (Thailand).

Problem: My Macbook Air (latest MacOS 14.3) is now constantly changing my DNS back to the resort’s True fiber router (192.168.x.x). When I change back to 1.1.1.1 it suddenly changes back to the resort router’s DNS. Grrr..

I have tried to “forget” that network, but then I get no wifi connection at all.

How do I save DNS on the Macbook so it can’t change DNS automatically? I see no option to save or lock the DNS settings. On my iPhone it keeps 1.1.1.1 with no problem.

Anyone? 🙏🏼

Doesn’t this do the same?

Appstore says not available for MacOS:

This app is available only on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

Found the Cloudflare App here: I am using the Internet fast lane by installing 1.1.1.1 app. It’s free and protects me from Internet spies! #1dot1dot1dot1

do you have a VPN ?
that would solve your problem.

I’m not an Apple product user, so I don’t know much about Mac, but I’m very surprised they allow gateways to mess with clients’ DNS settings.

Yes, 1.1.1.1 is a VPN

ah, I fully understand  the intent now.

1.1.1.1 is not a VPN, it’s a public DNS server run by CloudFlare.

Google “Mac OS private DNS” for your first steps to hide lookups from your ISP.
